Who we are: The WSG is a sub-group of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of the Diocese of Southern Virginia, which is a social and service organization for women in the Episcopal Church. WSG is open to all women attending St. Paul’s and includes women of varied ages, backgrounds and personalities who celebrate life and faith in God, enjoy each other’s company and share an occasional salad supper and glass of wine together.

Our purpose: The purpose of WSG is spiritual enrichment, growth in Christian faith and the formation of friendships through book study, discussion, prayer and socializing. Past books that we have read and discussed are Stories Jesus Still Tells: The Parables by John Claypool and Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby and Claude King. WSG meets the first Monday of each month, October through June.

Our Ministry: Besides ministering to each other through study, prayer and fellowship, the members of WSG have a committed ministry to our church family and the community. We minister to church newcomers through our welcome gift bags and to our parish’s sick and homebound by participating in the Loaves and Fishes Ministry. We minister to the community by donations from our cookbook, mug and note card sales to the Genieve Shelter for abused women, Boy’s Home, Jackson-Field Home for Girls and others.

ECW Emblem: The Crossrepresents Christ and our service to Him in the world. The Circle stands for our hope for wholeness in our lives. The out flowing lines from the center depict the many works of the Episcopal Church Women going out into the world. The intertwined lines represent our lives centered in Christ.

WSG Prayer: God our Father, Jesus our Savior, Holy Spirit our Guide and Comforter, we pray that You will bless and direct our ministry to our church family, our community and to ourselves. May we grow in our faith in You and in our love for You through our exploration and study of Your Word and the works of those who write about the Christian faith. Open our hearts and minds that we may recognize the needs of those in our parish and our community that you are calling us to serve. We pray that we will not fail to answer that call willingly and selflessly. Teach us how to live lives that will reflect your generous and amazing grace and unconditional love. Amen (2009 i. m.)
